In-class project 1: Windows programs in Linux

In this project you will need to learn how to run Windows applications under Linux. Using the handouts or your class text book (pages 238-242) please perform the following steps (please take screen shots while you working on this):

  1. install wine
  2. start Windows command prompt (cmd command) and execute the dir command to see what is the default folder and what it contains
  3. run explorer (Linux winfile command) and browse your "C:" drive.
  4. go to Google page using iexplorer
  5. search for notepad2 and download it to your computer
  6. unzip the archive and run notepad2. This is a true Windows program you executed in Linux.
  7. Find 7zip and download the installation package
  8. Install it and run

When completed, send me an e-mail with all screen shots taken to dementiev@marshall.edu.
