Project 1: Thunderbird and KMail account setting
In this project you need to create a new account in Thunderbird e-mail client, collect all screen shots you have done during the configuration process, comment them, and assemble all of this in one OpenOffice.org document file. This file has to be sent to the professor from your Linux machine via the account you just set. The process includes several steps:
- If you do not have a Gmail account, please register one. Simply go to Google mail and follow the instructions.
- Check if Thunderbird is already installed on your system. If not please install it. Add the installation command to the project report.
- Configure Thunderbird to receive messages from your Google mail account via IMAP protocol. Please attach screen shots that show how you did it.
- Configure Thunderbird to send messages through Google mail server via SMTP protocol. Please attach screen shots that show how you did it.
- Also configure KMail (yes, KMail not Thunderbird) to receive messages from Google sever via POP3 protocol.
Several notes:
- Please note that Gmail accounts have to be properly configured on Gmail server to allow access via POP3 or IMAP. Please click on the Settings link on the top of your Gmail account page and then click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP to make these protocols available.
- To make a screen shot of the whole screen in GNOME press the PrntScrn button. If you would like to make a screen shot of only the current window, press Alt+PrntScrn. In KDE you can use screen shot tool at Applications->Graphics menu.
